Community Supports JATC’s Celebrate Reading Project
JATC’s Celebrate Reading Project’s primary goal is to get a variety of books into the hands of young children and to get parents more involved in their child’s reading adventure. Junior Auxiliary members distribute collections of books for children to read at different locations in Taney County. During the year seasonal read aloud with a gift of a book for each child attending will be held. A reading celebration with games, read aloud, art projects, music, snacks, and gift bags is also held. Last year it was “Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!”. This year the celebration is “Reading by the Campfire” and will be held on June 1 from 10 am to noon at the Community Room in the Branson Tri-Lakes News Building located on Industrial Drive in Hollister, MO.
This project just got three big boosts from the community. First, Sam Walworth, a Branson Junior High seventh grader donated 85 like-new books from his personal collection. Second, we got the news that Central Bank would sponsor the celebration event with a donation of $500. In addition to the money, they also are providing green ducks, books, and an appearance by Dollar Bill. Third, Branson Daybreakers Rotary Club made a $1,500 donation earmarked for providing books for this project.
Junior Auxiliary of Taney County is also making positive connections with the children and parents where we deliver books, and with other charitable organizations such as CAM where we do Outreach programs and kids receive books.
Sheila Martin, Chair of this project, and her committee have great ideas to grow this project. Keep watching for more information on what is going to happen next.
